Mzimkhulu Colliery
In a joint venture with African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation (SOC) Ltd, Mwelase Group is constructing and developing an open-cast coal mine in Mpumalanga. The mine, along with its supporting infrastructure, aims to produce approximately 220,000 tons of coal per month exclusively for Eskom. This mine marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion program.
Khanysia Colliery
Established in 2012, Hlagisa Mining, in which Umcebo Mining (a subsidiary of Glencore) is a shareholder, operates Khanysia Colliery. It is an opencast mine that annually produces around 1.8 million tons of coal for consumption by Eskom. This mine plays a crucial role in supporting the country’s power generation needs.
Rietvlei Colliery
Hlagisa Mining, in which Umcebo Mining is a shareholder, operates Rietvlei Colliery. This opencast mine contributes approximately 1.8 million tons of coal annually to Eskom’s coal requirements. The mine plays a significant role in the stable supply of coal for electricity generation.
